Hundred Million Club

Twenty mail advertising and marketing executives across publishing, insurance, financial services and catalog retail – come together to form “The Hundred Million Club” – reflecting the U.S. Census at the time and the ability to reach all of them through the OG addressable media - direct mail

Ad Agencies Join

Among members were start-ups of the day: Book of the Month Club, the first Nieman Marcus catalog, and Dickie-Raymond, the first ad agency devoted to direct mail and mail order print advertising.

Membership Expands

Club membership – which held steady during the Depression and War Years – exploded, and meetings took place 10 times a year.

Direct Marketing

Lester Wunderman, founder of agency Wunderman Worldwide, and later a Marketing Club of New York Silver and Golden Apple honoree, uses a club meeting speech to first use the term “direct marketing” (October 1961).

The Silver Apples marks its 32nd year – and surpasses 250 individuals, companies and organizations that have been named Silver Apple honorees.

ABOUT

Chet Dalzell has more than 25 years of public relations management and expertise in service to leading brands in consumer, donor, patient and business-to-business markets, and in the field of integrated direct marketing. He serves on the Association of National Advertisers International ECHO Awards Board of Governors, as a Board Member to the Marketing Club of New York, and is senior director, communications and industry relations, with the Digital Advertising Alliance, a privacy self-regulatory program for data collection for digital and mobile interest-based advertising. Chet also served on Direct Marketing Association’s Committee on the Environment and Social Responsibility and where he led its Marketing Strategy outreach group. He also served on the United States Postal Service Greening the Mail Task Force, heading its Life Cycle of Mail Subcommittee. He loves UConn Basketball (men's and women's) and Nebraska Football (that's just men’s, at this point), too!

Alicia is a Founder and Head of Strategy at creative content agency Summer Friday. She’s spent her career between creative branding and performance marketing agencies and uses that background to lead clients through brand development, campaign planning and strategic initiatives. Alicia has worked across various industries with brands like J.P. Morgan, E*TRADE, Cigna, GE, National Grid and EBay.
